Art Journal Challenge-Journal Journeys Route 2

Do you love being challenged to create something that has meaning?  I know I do.  Do you love getting digital freebies to enhance your work?  If you do, then you'll want to check out the newest venture by Altered Amanda at Outside the Box Studios!  It's a collaboration with Digiscrap Addicts.  We're already on week two but it's not too late to join in the fun.  

This challenge takes place over four weeks.  It's all about creating meaningful art journal pages.  This time, the prompt was to "let your page reflect some positive steps toward your new venture."  You can see the written post here. 

I absolutely love getting free goodies for my image making, but I'm finding that there's an added benefit to me personally.  I'm really considering what I can do to advance my artistic abilities and include more collaboration with other artists.  I hope you'll take a closer look.

Inspiration Avenue Challenge-Birthdays

On July 15, I hosted the challenge over at Inspiration Avenue.  It was my mother's birthday so I chose the theme "Birthdays."  Here is the collage I created for the challenge.

I've always loved celebrating my birthday, though it isn't nearly as fun as it was when I was a child.  I loved the quote by Mary Pickford and I believe that all of us must find some way to remain young indefinitely.  You can visit us over at IA and see the challenge entries here.

Art Journal

Outside the Box Studios is hosting an art journal challenge with DigiScraps Addicts.  Each week for four weeks there will be a prompt.  By participating, I get to feed my compulsion to collect more digital art-making supplies.  This week, the route is to create about something I want to do- or learn, or be a part of.

I really want to increase my contacts with other digital image makers.  I've met lots of awesome people and I find I thrive on feedback.  I also love to look at others' artistic creations and share my thoughts.  Within the digital community, there are lots of people who are willing to share their expertise.  I want to increase my skills in photographing things that I can use in my digital collages.  It's not the photography I need help with so much as the skill of extracting objects once they are photographed.  Those are the two things I decided to share in this week's art journal page.

Happy Birthday to My Mom

My mother, Norma Jean Hazel, would have been 79 years old today.  If she was still alive, I'd have sent her a gardenia from her local flower shop. That's all she wanted for her birthday from the time she was about 60 until she died suddenly at age 71. The tradition started out with me sending a corsage, but she decided that she preferred a simple gardenia blossom that she could float in a pretty crystal bowl.  Gardenias don't last very long after they are cut, but she didn't care.  She sat and enjoyed the beautiful fragrance every year on her birthday.  By the way, in honor of her birthday the challenge at Inspiration Avenue is "Birthdays" this week.  You can visit Inspiration Avenue by clicking on the button in my right sidebar.  We'd love to have you hop over and check out our challenges.

  I created the kit as a project at Pixel Scrapper and had a lot of fun doing them.  These projects help me learn techniques to enhance my digital collage skills and the people there are awesome!   In addition to that, you can also get lots of free digital scrapbooking supplies.  If you haven't ever been there, I strongly recommend it.  (There's a button for that on my right sidebar too.)

Sunday Postcard Art Challenge-Fairies of the Sea

Did you know that mermaids are the fairies of the sea?  These sea fairies were captured on a postcard image, just floating around one day.  Please note that these sea fairies do not have wings while in the water. 

I suppose the caption would read, "If I was going to pay all that money to enhance my starfish, I'd have gone with bigger ones, wouldn't you?"
