Happy Birthday to My Mom

My mother, Norma Jean Hazel, would have been 79 years old today.  If she was still alive, I'd have sent her a gardenia from her local flower shop. That's all she wanted for her birthday from the time she was about 60 until she died suddenly at age 71. The tradition started out with me sending a corsage, but she decided that she preferred a simple gardenia blossom that she could float in a pretty crystal bowl.  Gardenias don't last very long after they are cut, but she didn't care.  She sat and enjoyed the beautiful fragrance every year on her birthday.  By the way, in honor of her birthday the challenge at Inspiration Avenue is "Birthdays" this week.  You can visit Inspiration Avenue by clicking on the button in my right sidebar.  We'd love to have you hop over and check out our challenges.

Since I didn't send anyone a gardenia this year, I've created a special freebie for you.  You can download my Mermaid Digital Scrapbooking Kit at the links below.  Just for fun, here are two previews.

I created the kit as a project at Pixel Scrapper and had a lot of fun doing them.  These projects help me learn techniques to enhance my digital collage skills and the people there are awesome!   In addition to that, you can also get lots of free digital scrapbooking supplies.  If you haven't ever been there, I strongly recommend it.  (There's a button for that on my right sidebar too.)

Please leave a comment and let me know if you like the kit.   I love getting your feedback and always appreciate it when people take the time to comment.  I get really excited when someone decides they like my blog enough to follow it.

Thank you for stopping by!

  3. Thank you so much for the kit, it is beautiful. Of course I love the mermaids and the gorgeous brads and the super jewel colours and the fabulous flat-fish tape but the star for me is paper 13!! A real work of art. If I had the know-how I'd print it onto fabric and applique it with added sequins and frame it on the wall - I may just frame the printed paper. Thank you for sharing this and for sharing the beautiful memory of your Mum, I'm so sorry she's gone.

    1. Dawn, thank you for your wonderful comments. Paper 13 was a fun experiment and is a good example how making these things helps me learn new techniques. I agree, sequins would be awesome with it! I am glad you like the kit. Stay tuned-I have another blog hop kit coming out August 1.

  7. Howdy! I want to thank you for this lovely kit! It's just beautiful!
As with your digital design/art, just practice! If you are in to digi-scrapping, read tuts or watch video tuts on it. Digi-Art Journaling has a fair selection of videos, too, but, there are a lot of AJ 'series' going around.
You are definitely off to a great start!

  8. Sorry that you lost your mother. I understand I lost mine in 1988 and I still miss her. For awhile it was every day but now not as often. I am also a grandmother that has lost one of my grandbabies. This time of year is a bit sad for me as he was born and die on December 10. For several years I bought a Christmas ornament to honor him, but I stopped as I felt it was causing more pain than necessary for his siblings. I pray that you will remember the good times and focus on those for your pages.

Thank you but sharing your story and kit. I was a little sad when the link for the papers did not work for me.

Have a blessed and good year.

    1. If you can tell me the problem you're having with the papers, maybe I can fix it. They should be downloadable.
