Digi Blog Train-Mental Disorders Awareness

I'm part of a Facebook group that creates free digital scrapbooking kits in order to boost awareness for various issues.  This month, we worked with a very pretty color palette to increase awareness of mental disorders.  I feel very strongly about this issue, mainly because I feel that our society seems to have cast aside many of those who suffer from mental illness.  The Center for Disease Control estimates that one in five children have some kind of mental disorder.  Approximately one in four American adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, according to The National Institute of Mental Health.  The same organization reports that the leading cause of disabilities in the U. S. and Canada are mental disabilities.

My part of this blog train was created as a neutral themed kit.  The pieces could be used for many purposes.  It's centered around the idea of having fun.  The colors seemed like happy hues to me and the paint, flowers, and other accents I created seemed playful to me.  I hope you like using it.

  2. Such a cheerful kit. My grandson lives with me and is only three. He has been diagnosed with Autism. It is really hard to get the proper care he needs. I appreciate your bringing this issue to everyone's attention. My oldest daughter is bi-polar and I have not seen her for over a year and do not know for sure where she is. Thanks for sharing. CM

  3. I'm glad you like my kit. Your grandson is very lucky to have to in his life. I'm sorry about your daughter. I have bipolar friends and it can be heartbreaking when you can't help them. Take care!

  5. This subject touches all our lives. Though experiences may be too painful to speak about, we have made great strides in helping and diagnosing mental disorders. Programs like these bring people together, and hopefully through education we are able to eradicate the negative misnomers of these illnesses. Thanks so much.

  9. Hello! Yep - I agree that more effort should be made to help people who suffer from mental illness. I'd go so far as to say that every single person will suffer from some mental health issues either permanently or at some point in their lives. It's still either a taboo subject, or a risible one. I think it just embarasses people and they don't know what to say or how to react. Talking about it should be commonplace rather than something to be ashamed of that needs to be hidden. I've got used to telling people about my 'barking' tourettes early on, when I can feel stress tics approaching....I have to say that EVERYONE I tell is profoundly disappointed then if I DON'T bark! One or two have joined in! And that relieves the stress.....which reduces the tics..... it's all awesome. As are you for taking part in this project! Epic, missus, epic. Big hugs and the occasional howl from Shroo:)xxx

  12. Thank you so much for your kindness in participating in awareness blog trains, and for your generosity in sharing your wonderful designs. Mental illness affects SO many people, and their lives can be just devastated. My son has had mental illness since he was just seven years old, and his life has been really VERY difficult as a result. He is now just 16, and has suffered from severe anxiety (would not leave the house for MONTHS), depression, PTSD. For the last 18 months he has also suffered terrible hallucinations and seizures (the seizures are called Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures). We have had huge barriers in finding care for him, even though we live in a small city in Canada, which provides great care for physical illnesses, but not mental illnesses. Thank you for your lovely designs!
